Somewhere over the RainBOW

One of my great friends, Stefanie, is having a baby girl in March and I helped throw a baby shower for her at my house over the weekend.

We wanted to do something different that we haven’t seen all of Pinterest (love) and that we haven’t already seen at our own friends’ showers… so we came up with a build a bow collection. My sister, Jen, owns Lil Mop Top and helped design our ADORABLE invitations. I got TONS of compliments on them and everyone seemed to love the theme. So happy with the outcome!

A few months ago I saw a picture of a string of origami bows and I knew I wanted to do that as part of the décor. I didn’t think it would be so hard to find a video on how to make these but it was! After some research, the bows were made and ready to go.

These bows added with some balloons were the main decoration for the fireplace and mantel area, which is where we put all of Stefanie’s presents.

The activity for the shower was a RainBOW of blessings. I cut out a bow shape and traced it onto 6 different pieces of scrapbook paper and cut those out (duh). I made a chalkboard and bow holder and put the instructions to write a blessing on a bow and using a baby clothespin attach it to the bow holder for Stef to take home. Stef had mentioned to me a month ago that she wanted to make a bow holder that she found on Pinterest, but little did she know I already made it for her!

As you can see there is also a wreath in the decorations. I have a SLIGHT wreath obsession, so what better to do than make one for Stefanie to use at the hospital and then in her home! I bought some white yarn that has a glimmer of iridescent to it and wrapped the whole wreath in it. Then using the Cricut I made a banner that spelled out Baby Girl. I got the letter A and painted it red to match her nursery and my lovely husband wired it on there and Wah-Lah! Wreath complete.

One of the hostess made a diaper cake and another made favors for our guests. The favors were Rice Krispie treats, YUM.

Next was the food. We had about 25-30 people RSVP and it was from 1-3pm so we wanted to make sure people got plenty of options. On Pinterest I saw a rainbow of fruit with marshmellows as the clouds so I knew that I wanted to do that. Sara, hostess, made the cupcakes and made the cupcake toppers, which I thought were perfect for the shower theme. Sadly, I couldn’t eat one, but I am sure they were delish! I also added balloons entering the room with the food. I never get to use balloons with shower so I used them a lot! ha!

So I realized that I never did a post on a baby shower that I threw before summer started. Oops! Our theme was Kendra is About to Pop! We LOVE the way it turned out and I ate about 4 pounds of popcorn on accident. Oh well! I will blame it on the fact that I was preggo?! Anyways, Kendra had a TON of great family and friends there to celebrate sweet baby Asher! And now that he is here I can say that he really is a DOLL!!

So here is the main set up:

I haven’t posted in well over a month! Oh life. We are doing well and Emma is growing and growing and growing! We go for her 2 month check up next monday (tear) and I am going to bet that she is over 12 pounds already. I love a chunky baby!

Poor E has reflux and we haven’t gotten under control 100%. She has really good days and then we have a spell of a few bad days in a row. Today has not been a great day. We can’t get 2 ounces down without crying and crying. Sadness! Poor thing is used to drinking at least 4 ounces at a time. Anyone have any suggestions? We are on Nutramigen and she takes Nexium in the morning and at night. I guess we will see what the good old doc has to say!

I knew that getting back into shape was not going to be easy but this is RIDICULOUS. I feel so fat that it is overly depressing. I got the okay to workout at 6 weeks so I am on week 3 of working out at least 4 – 5 times a week and guess how much weight I have lost! NONE. Not even a damn pound. Are you f-ing kidding me?! Angers me. Can you tell? My mom took me to Kohls yesterday and bought me two pairs of pants because I am SO tired of wearing hideous maternity jeans. The size that I had to buy was horrendous. I have NEVER been that big, even when I weighed more than what I weigh now. SO, Jeremy and I are going paleo! I hear nothing but great things about it and a lot of people at Crossfit do it, so we are going to give it the ol College try. Anyone do Paleo? We won’t be 100% but as close as possible.

These pounds better be coming off asap or I am asking for liposuction for Christmas.

But, seeing this sweet smile makes all of this worth it!

September 11th!

September 11th is a very important day for all us but this year it was extremely special for our family. Emma Reagan decided to make her big debut 11 days early!! Saturday was a normal day and we went to Crossfit for a great workout. Hello… I blogged on Saturday about the closet dividers I made! Well, during that whole time I was getting contractions, but they weren’t consistent enough to make us think anything of it. We went to church and out to dinner and by the time I got home they were relatively close together and getting stronger and stronger. We made sure that our bags were packed, although Jeremy was convinced it was a false alarm! Finally at about 11pm I could not just sit there in pain anymore. I called the hospital and they told me to come in and get checked, so off we went! At about midnight I was at a 3 so I was admitted because the contractions were coming every few minutes. Thankfully by 3:30 I had an epidural and was nice and comfy! Jeremy was able to get a few hours of sleep. I, on the other hand, could not at all. My blood pressure thing went off every 15 minutes and nurses came in all the time, which is fine, but that doesn’t bode well for nap time! Emma’s heart rate would start to randomly drop if I laid in one position for a long time, so I had to switch around and then they put me on oxygen too. Then, I got a fever. It was all sorts of lovely! By 11am on Sunday I was at a 10!! YEAH! But, I didn’t get to start pushing until 2…. and then I FINALLY had her at 4:26pm! She is PERFECT!! We are so in love with her, I just can’t describe it! Yesterday she had her newborn pictures (by Arlene Cloud from Little Altars) and they came out amazing. Here are some for you to just “oooo and awwww” at!

Closet Craft

Good news! Emma should be here no later than a week from Monday! Which would only be 3 days before my due date, but it is better than waiting another 3 days. Hopefully, she will decide to come next week instead. We would be A-OKAY with that!

After seeing these adorable closet dividers on Pinterest (most addicting site in the world) I decided to give it the good old college try. Thankfully, it was really easy to do. Here is what you need:

Go to Container Store (at least that is where I went!) and get as many dividers as you want. They were $.99, so this is really all you will spend money on. I got 5 because I didn’t think I would even need all 5, but it sounded like a good amount! You also need scrapbook paper and Zots. I am sure all of you crafter have this. You could use any other kind of adhesive, but I thought Zots worked really well.

The first thing I did was trace one of the dividers onto computer paper and cut it out. Then, I taped it to the actual divider and traced the inside lip on the paper. I wanted the white to show a little but that is completely up to you. After I cut it out to the right size I glued it to a a spare piece of cardstock and cut it out. I wanted my template more sturdy so that I can use this again for baby shower gifts for friends.

Now all you have to do is trace your template onto all the scrapbook papers that you wanted. I did 10 pages so I would have enough for the front and backs of the dividers. I can use them on either side of the closet! After you trace, you cut… duh! This was the longest process, which should show you that this is a very easy and quick project.

With your Zots (or whatever you are using) glue the cut outs to the front and back of the dividers. And, done!!!

I actually inked all the edges in light pink. Not sure why but I did.

And, here they are in Emma’s closet!!!

All in all this was a super easy and cheap project! Took me an hour total and cost me less than $6. That, I can handle!

Nursery Pics Round Dos

Emma is going to be here shortly, like in two weeks, so we better get this nursery complete. We are still waiting for the correct chair to come in. It better be here ASAP!!

Emma is a bit spoiled already. Her dresser is completely full of clothes and I already have bins started for clothes that are over 3 months. Gotta love having a sister with two little girls!

The last bikini was given to Bella from my Aunt Shelley and I can’t wait for Emma to take a picture in it! Emma has this and a beautiful blanket that she made for John, so I am glad that I have something that is from her even if it was specifically made for Emma.

My good friend, Jillian, asked me about a month ago if we were going to do maternity pictures. She is also pregnant so I thought she was just asking to see if they should too. Little did I know that she just got a brand new fancy camera and wanted to practice taking pictures and she asked if she could take some of us! Well, SURE YA CAN!!! So, we went out yesterday and here are a couple sneak peaks that she sent me.

The last one cracks me up because my ‘ladies’ are so big! Well… HELLO!!

Three Steps Forward, One Step Back

We have made some real progress in Emma’s nursery! We bought a dollhouse bookcase, arranged everything in the room, fixed the curtains, made a pillow, AND our beloved chair arrived after over 2 months of waiting. Sadly, it was the wrong chair! Right color, but we ordered the recliner glider and we only got the glider. To say that I freaked out may be an understatement. Emma is due in 6 weeks and the chair took over 8 weeks to get it. Do the math people, it isn’t going to end well! Jeremy took over and talked to the store and they worked some magic and we should get the correct chair in 3 weeks. Let’s just all say a prayer that it is right!

Everything still needs work, but we are getting somewhere now.

We also found a great deal on a BOB Revolution stroller. Do you have one?! We LOVE it!! This was the one thing that Jeremy was very adamant about getting. Fine by me!

My sister, Jen, graciously gave us their car seat and bases since they aren’t using them with her boys. So, we ordered a new set and here is what Emma will be in during her first car ride.

A little less than 6 more weeks to go! Although, we are praying for 4-5 instead.

Not much to update with here. We haven’t done much else in the nursery because we are waiting on ‘the chair’ to come in so that we can finalize where everything will go in the room. I did, however, fix the massive long curtains and with the extra fabric I made a pillow to go on the chair (I think…). That is pretty much the progress that has been made in the room. I have a running check list of things to do in the room and we hope to get quite a bit done within the next 2-3 weeks. Well, we better!! We don’t have that much time!

Hopefully the chair comes in this week and I will have pictures to post!!

Side note… what are the odds that JP and Ashley actually stay together? I am going to go ahead and say slim to none. Hope I didn’t spoil anything for the 3 people that read my bloggie!

Side Side note…. can it not be 108 degrees all week? I am ready to not be so swollen.

Shower and More

My mom and I made nursery curtains last week and I really like how they turned out. Actually, my mom did the vast majority of the work, but I did a lot of pinning! She kept saying that they were really long and I was like ehhh they will be fine. Oops.

Only about 2 feet too long! HA! I called my mom and I was cracking up… I am not sure that she thought it was hilarious too.

I also finished the side table that will go buy our recliner that I CANNOT wait to get in!

Last Sunday my sisters and three best friends threw the BEST baby shower ever!!! The theme was Build a Library and the invitations were ADORABLE! My sister sells them on Etsy. I will have to do another post about them. Here are a few pictures of the fabulous day.

Speaking of showers…. I am off to write more thank you notes. My goal is to have them done by this week!

A Plan!

We finally have a vision for our nursery and I cannot wait for everything to come together! We ordered our crib and we went back and bought the Serena & Lily bedding (Kate Collection) from Baby Bliss. LOVE LOVE LOVE it! While we were at Baby Bliss we sat in the most amazingly comfortable chair of all time. Although, it was amazingly expensive. Boo. My mom and I searched everywhere to see who else carried it in store and online and we weren’t having any luck, UNTIL Buy Buy Baby opened up last week. Have you been here? It is glorious. I like it more than Babies R Us, but then again, they basically have the exact same stuff anyways. They had the chair for over $100 less and then for 20% off! We ordered it right away and in 8-10 weeks this baby will be in our nursery.

The color is completely different and it is a solid, no pattern.

I also found a wonderful french-style nightstand from a garage sale that I am going to repaint a pale pink and then glaze for by the chair. I still need to figure out the window treatments and get a loverly lamp to go in that area.

We also figured out wall colors and ideas!! Hallelujah! We are going to do beadboard in our white trim colors to add some dimension. Plus, it is super cute in nurseries. That helps! Our room looks nothing like this, but it is a nursery with beadboard, so you get the drift.

Our wall color is not the norm, but we love that. I didn’t want pink or green or blue or whatever. So, we thought lets do a chic gray! Sherwin Williams to the rescue. Here is a color swatch of it but it looks so much better on the walls.

Jeremy and I love it and we hope to start painting this week and then put the beadboard up as well. I am hoping this won’t be a monster of a task. While we are putting that up we will also put up crown molding. Easy smeasy. We have done that in a few rooms already so it isn’t super difficult.

I found this bookcase from Land of Nod, but again, I am not paying the price tag. So, Jeremy said he would make one! Which I love better because I can make it any size I want. Oh the joys of having a super handy husband.

My baby shower theme is to help Build a Library so everyone is bringing their favorite book instead of a card. I LOVE this because I am such a book nerd and I have already started collecting books for Emma to put on this bookcase. So, above this I want to frame some really cute vintage book covers to add pops of color and make this library her little nook. My friend, Sara, and I looked for a while online last night while the guys watched the Mavs (WOOOHOOO CHAMPS!!) and here are a few that we loved.

I just love The Saggy Baggy Elephant. I think he is just adorable!!

As you can see I am getting overly excited and I cannot wait for everything to come together. Stay tuned for massive pictures!!!

Nursery

Things are actually moving along with our nursery plans. My mom and I took the day off and went crib and fabric shopping. We found a great crib at Pottery Barn and went ahead and ordered it! Check that off the list.

I LOVE the Kate Collection from Serena & Lily so we went looking for fabrics for things that we liked about that bedding. We found some great pieces and I brought home a ton of samples, but after you add everything up I could spend a little more and get the exact bedding I want. So tomorrow we are going to go to Baby Bliss and look at the bedding, again, and possibly just order it! We shall see!

So excited to get everything started!!

3rd Times a Charm

We bought two full bathroom sets (shower curtain, towels, bath mat, etc…) and we returned them both rather quickly. I have a problem finding things that I like and Jeremy has a problem waiting for me to actually find things that I like. Vicious circle.

Thankfully, my birds never fail me. Jeremy said it is strange since they are highly diseased creatures, but they are cute as décor!

My laptop crashed the other day and I lost ALL of my pictures and documents. It was a bad night and it is now with a man who better be able to bring everything back to life! He is my only hope because I couldn't even get the computer to restart correctly. LOVELY.

Anyways, I was thinking the other day about how things are changing and I don't know if it is just me but these marvelous changes are not so marvelous... let me explain.

1. You tinkle constantly. And, I mean constantly. I got home from the gym this morning and had to go three times within the hour that I left for work. Hmm...

2. I do NOT have glowing skin. More like the opposite. I have reverted back to a 12 year old in the face. No bueno.

3. Maternity clothing is NOT easy to find and I no longer fit into ANY of my regular pants. I am literally wearing the same 4 pairs of bottoms every single day and two are still too big.

4. Speaking of maternity clothing, I have yet to find any workout pants that are not as thin as tights and that would not make my butt look even more cottage-cheesier. I need REGULAR workout gear people. Thick and holds me in place. Make it happen, thank you.

5. The whole thing about how a lot of people barely gain any weight the first trimester is pure crap. Well, in my opinion at least. Yes, I lived off of Kit Kats for a good week or so and yes, chinese food sounded amazing every other night, BUT I still worked out and I didn't really overeat other than a wee bit. Nothing tastes good, dang it!!

6. People find out you are pregnant and feel the need to give you every bit of advice that they have. Granted, it is nice of them, but I don't care to hear everyone's every single bit of advice. Esp. from people that I don't even know their names. Apparently when you are pregnant people automatically think you are a moron and in need of major help. News flash, I am quite capable of handling things.

7. If you haven't noticed I am more blunt and I don't have a lot of patience. Watch out when I am hungry. I try to warn Jeremy ahead of time that I am getting to the cranky hungry point and things need to move fast. And, I mean FAST.

Birthday and Bathroom

Today is my birthday! The big 2-7. This should be a hugely exciting year for us! Hello…. a baby is quite a change for us.

Another change is our guest bathroom. It isn’t nearly done, but it is getting there. Take a looksie.

Here are some of the after shots. We have paints on the wall now but I haven’t taken pictures yet. I know, I suck. Sorry.

I am in love with our bathroom and my birthday. I got a TON of candy for coworkers and students and their parents. Jeremy bought me a new phone over the weekend and I came home to my favorite candies, a sweet card, and a beautiful orchid. LOVE him!!

Changes Ahead

Wow… how long has it been since I have blogged?! Yikes!! Things have been really busy with family, work, friends, side furniture business, etc… We are also in the process of redoing our guest bathroom. But, that will be saved for another post when I have all the after pictures complete. Knowing me it could take me months to find a shower curtain. So, don’t hold your breathe for that post!

Plus, we are expecting our first baby in September! YEAH! We couldn’t be more excited for what is in store for us. We found out at the very beginning of January and we finally told everything about a week or so ago. Quite the secret to keep. Of course, I cannot wait to find out the sex so I can start with my massive nursery plans. Jeremy is going to just love me when I show him my ideas. Oh well!

My goal for 2011 is to be a better blogger. Well, maybe. I am just getting busier and busier and I don’t even know what to blog about…. which means, I don’t blog.

I will try to get better!

My sister and I are still going strong on redoing furniture and I think it is going great so far. We have had a ton of positive feedback. Here are our latest purchases that we are going to redo.

This dresser is already sold and we are going to do a custom finish for our client. We are going to change it up a little bit to better accommodate what she is using the dresser for. We are also going to repaint her gorgeous headboard, footboard, and two nightstands to match. Can’t wait to get started and show you the after pictures!

Our idea on this is to make it pretty girly and possibly paint it a very light pink or white. Maybe even do a stencil or design on it? Who knows?! Any ideas?? I am just excited to have to reupholster something again! (I love doing that!)

Canton, Mustang, and More!

I went to Canton, TX today with some friends from work and, of course, we had a great time. Who wouldn’t have a great time shopping around and laughing with your friends?? I went with not a single thing in mind and here is what I left with:

I am thinking that I will paint this (not sure what color) before I put it on the wall. What do you think?

These are super cute gift boxes and wrapping paper that was DIRT cheap! We all know if there is animal print involved I am there.

I also got some jewelry making supplies that I bought in bulk, which you can’t get anywhere around here unless you go to Dallas Market Center. So, I was excited about that, but you won’t be excited to see it because it looks boring. But much needed for making cute stuff!

I have been LOVING my new camera and here are some shots that I took of Jeremy’s ‘new’ 1966 Mustang. He is actually out in the garage with a friend working on it; imagine that.

Earlier this week I went to my sister’s house to finish working on some more furniture to sell. While I was there she had a photographer over taking pictures of Lilly and Bella. I am sure they will turn out adorable and I can’t wait to see them! Here are a few pictures I got of Bella (Lilly was on a chair get all positioned at the time). I am also posting some after pictures of the desk. I don’t have any before. Sorry!!

Holidays 2010

First things first. Check out the Christmas costume my friend and I made for Jeremy:

Amazing huh?! It cost me about $25 to make. And, I think it came out just adorable!

Here are a few pictures of some of our Christmas fiestas with both of our families.

My parents got us a brand spanking new camera!! WOOHOO!! It is quite the learning process of how to take wonderous pictures, but we will get there. A great friend is a photographer so she is going to teach me what to do. Thanks, Arlene!

Here are a few pictures from when we went to Allison and Tyler’s house today. They got the same camera and know way more than us, so they were showing us what to do before we started painting more furniture. So excuse the messy look!

FYI…. go see True Grit! We saw it tonight and we loved it. Okay, off to get ready for bed. I am going to CrossFit with Jeremy tomorrow morning. Kind of nervous already!

Oops

It has been almost a month since I have posted. I apologize! I don’t think anyone lost sleep over it, but I will pretend that everyone was really sad that they didn’t get to read my blog every week.

Our lives have been crazy busy! Thanksgiving was wonderful and delish. Always fun being around all of our families. The Thursday after Thanksgiving started our flooring process. They look WONDERFUL!! We love how everything turned out and we could not have been happier with the company we went with. It’s Your Floors in NRH, Texas is a great contact if you need one.

We still need to get an area rug and then get our pool table put back together. Then, our house will be back in order! Yeah!

Jeremy, my hubs, Tyler, my brother-in-law, and I finished a bedroom set and they are currently up for sale. We had a good time doing it and I think they turned out amazing!

Moving on…

This week has not been a great week for Jeremy and myself. But things will get back to normal soon. One positive about this week is that we think we have found some possibilities for our wood floors.

They are all LM Flooring and are all just a hair different in shading. I have my favorite and Jeremy has his. We will see who wins out. I think I have also decided to get a more custom area rug for our game room. We are getting our floors at ProSource and they said we can pick out a carpet and they can make it into a rug. Hello! Options would be endless if we didn’t have a budget, but we do, so options are not so endless. But I will have fun trying to make something work.

Any ideas on good carpet patterns for a rug??

What a week…

This week has been really busy and has had some super low moments. Let’s start with these photos:

Yes, that would be water coming up from our floors. It looks way better than before we cleaned it up and turned the water off from the street. We have not one, but two slab leaks in our house. Our beautiful wood floors have already starting warping. It is sadness. I hope our insurance gives us the go ahead to get our floors completely redone. I mean they are going to have to since there is sitting water underneath them!! Ugh… then the very next day our pool pump went out. Goodbye money that we planned on using for our guest bathroom remodel. Boo. (No pun intended since it is Halloween.)

Saturday Jeremy and I went to College Station to go to the Texas A&M vs. Texas Tech game. Jeremy went to A&M and I went to Tech. We had a great time! He had a better time since they won, but I wasn’t expecting much from our team. I miss LEACH!

Our seats were in the shade and I didn’t want to have the lady behind me take another picture. Oh well.

Pretty great seats! Thanks to his parents for giving us their tickets for the game.

We worked on furniture for a few hours today and we hope to have SEVERAL pieces done by Saturday. Stay tuned to see how they turn out. :)

I have read the first two in a week (they are short easy reads) and I am waiting for the 3rd one to come in at the library. Not going to lie, I know they are Young Adult books, but I think they are pretty good!!

Here are my recent purchases from Craig. These are the pictures from the post, so they aren’t that great. It was POURING today so they are nice and dry in the garage; which means they are nice and squished so Jetty can be in there too.

What color should I paint them? These aren’t for me, so it can’t be too crazy! Maybe the same color as the last dresser? They almost have the exact same body style too.

Altar’d Party

This past Saturday was our Altar’d Party and we had a blast!! Mandie from Altar'd drove to DFW from Houston so that I could host a party here with my friends and family. We are so grateful that she was willing to do that!

It took two trips to Michael’s and two nights to complete, but my topiaries are done! If you want to make two buy:

-2 small pots
-2 small styrofoam balls and 2 mediums ones
-moss
-floral
-2 dowel rods
-spray paint

Thankfully, my in-laws have a small hardware store at their house so I got the 2 dowel rods there. I stuck those in the smaller balls and put those in the pot first. I spray painted the whole thing and it only took two coats.

Cut your dowel rod down to the height that you want. I had to cut it twice because it was way too tall the first time. Then, I just spread out my supplies and decided on what the heck I was going to do. Took me a little while to get a game plan together.

Also, remember to hot glue the dowel rod to the balls and the balls to the pot. Makes life easier!

Now, just start sticking your floral pieces in where you want them! I would cut the pieces so I had about an inch to push into the base and it would stick out a few inches from the base. I wanted it to look as full as possible.

So, here is my final result! I think it turned out great; especially for my first go around. I have QUITE a bit left over… oops. So if anyone wants a topiary, you know who to call! And, it isn’t Ghostbusters….

Craft Day 1

My goal for today was to make a wreath and hang it up before I went to church. So, I went straight from the gym to Michael’s, which was not pretty. My face was beet red and I kept wondering if I was actually moving because my legs were hurting so bad. But, have no fear, I perked right back up while walking through the store. Michael’s had all of their fall floral and accessories for 50% off! JACKPOT! So here is what I got:

I know it is a ton of stuff, but remember I am going to make topiaries too (hopefully tomorrow). So, I just started placing things around the wreath until I got a combination I liked. It took a lot longer than what I would have thought. I am not super great at it, so I changed everything every other second. (And, I have to have a picture to look at to get ideas…duh!)

So here is the final result!!

Remember that the big white fluffy thing if the coffee paper wreath that is on the other side of the door. I think I have a wreath obsession.

High Hopes

I am hoping to do some fall crafting this weekend. It may be a solo project because Jeremy is planning on doing some major work outside. We are finally taking the plunge and buying a shed. Who knew those things were so expensive?! Well, you may have, but I sure didn’t. But, it will be a huge space saver and then our next step is to put a lot of shelving in the garage. Should take a year to get everything how we want it. Wow. I am way off topic! So anyways… I have been thinking that my cute cute summer time wreath is now out of season. Sadness.

I really do love this one! I will save it for later, that’s for sure! Well, I have been blogging around looking for funzie fall stuff. Everyday Expressions has this great wreath tutorial that I think I am going to attempt this weekend.

While I’m at it I might as well try these fall topiaries by Decor Chick. I might make mine a little bit more full? Not sure?!

Pretty soon I need to get my pumpkins and start painting them. I think I might spray them white and then stencil on a design in gold? Orange? What color do you think? Anyone want to join in on the craft weekend?! (I hope I actually get some of it done!!)

Tuesday + TV = Love

Did you watch either one? If so, what did you think?! I LOVED this Glee. I thought it was hilarious! The brushing my teeth with soda because I thought Dr. Pepper was a dentist. I was cracking up. Jeff went too far with Sarah, but when does he not go crazy-o?

It was sad. I miss Rita. But, I still love Dexter… even though he kills peeps.

Christmas So Soon??

Jeremy and I are starting to think of what we are going to give ourselves for Christmas and I we are leaning towards a King-Sized Bed. I am perfectly content with ours but I am also 5’1. Jer, on the other hand, is not so comfy. Here is our plan: just buy the mattress and the bed frame, buy new bedding (kind of sad because I love ours), and make a new headboard. I am pretty excited and I saw this today on Chic Coles and loved it!

I would love to add some yellow or some pop of fun color in the pillow.

The students start back tomorrow, although, I have been back for a little over a week now. It is so much different when the kiddos are there though. Not sure if I am excited about this year or not. We will see!

Jessica from Perfectly Imperfect tagged me in a little questionnaire; so here goes!

Here are Jessica’s 8 questions for me:

1. What is your greatest achievement?
This is a hard one! I would say it is the fact that we are financially sound at the age of 26! Our cars are finally paid off, we have no debt (minus the house), and we are able to save and have fun all at the same time. It took a lot of work and we have our ups and downs, but we are very happy with our future!

2. What is your worst habit?
I am a planner and worrier. When I think of something that I need to do I cannot stop thinking of when I can get it done and what I need to do. It is annoying and I know it annoys Jeremy too! Although, he might say something else is my worst habit?!

3. What did you want to be when you “grew up”?
A nurse! HA! I nearly pass out every time I get blood taken. Needless to say that major lasted for one semester.

4. What is your favorite childhood memory?
Playing outside with my sisters and neighbors. We mainly just rode our bikes around and played with sidewalk chalk. =)

5. How did you decide on the name for your blog?
I actually cannot remember! Odd…..

6. What is your favorite place to go out to eat?
Trulucks is amazing.

7. What is the last book that you read? (I need a new one friends!)
This is horrible, but I read the first 3 books from the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. They are vampire books and I have to skip some parts because they are pretty risk-ay! I am reading No Second Chance by Harlan Coben. Not very far into it yet, but I like his other books.

8. What is your favorite family tradition? (new or old)
The Texas A&M vs. Texas Tech game!! We usually win, so that makes it much better. We are starting an original Jamotta family dinner with just my sisters and parents around Christmas. Haven’t done that since before the husbands, so it has been years!

Denson Pizzeria

We celebrated my sister, Jen, and my brother in law, Tyler’s, birthdays today at our home. We wish our grandparents could have been there, but my grandpa is still not doing super well, so we will have to do another event when he gets to come home! Continued prayers/thoughts for him would be greatly appreciated!

Anywhom! Jeremy and I decided that today would be a perfect time to try to make homemade pizzas on the grill. We usually do the normal hotdogs, hamburgers, chicken, etc…. so we opted for something different that everyone had to get involved in.

The only thing I didn’t get from Target was the dough. We got those at Central Market. One dough can easily make two personal size pizzas!

From your regular grocery store you need to get corn meal, pizza sauce, cheese, and any toppings that you want. I got mushrooms, green peppers, pepperoni, and onions. Worked perfect!

Start your assembly! Put corn meal ON your pizza tray to help with non-sticking. Roll out your dough. We used this roller that had spikes on it (can you tell I don’t cook???) and rolled that on it before saucing. Why? Ehh… not sure?! Sauce your pizza, cheese next, any other toppings you want, and I cheesed again! MMmmm… that was the trick!

Put a pizza stone on your grill and put some corn meal on that as well. Slide your pizza on and let ‘em cook! Easy as that! Don’t put your grill on high though, maybe medium or lower.

Of course, I stopped taking pictures at this time because I was running pizzas back and forth and eating for the next two hours. Awesome!! Everyone seemed to really enjoy it! Yeah!

Final Result: Jeremy and Tyler decided to take a nap while watching the Rangers. Maybe they ate too much pizza… or maybe, it was the non-coke drinks??

Hard life they lead.

And, fyi, Rangers are now losing 3-0 in the 9th and no outs. Not looking too promising.

UPDATE! Jeremy might not love that I am putting this, but oh well. I am hysterical laughing. A loud commercial just came on and he popped up but then immediately started talking about something that deals with $50. I just looked at him and was like what?? He goes you know when you all were getting ready at 5:30 and we were talking about no one wants to go out late anymore and we already eat dinner by then? I was like no… I have NO idea what you are talking about. I was laughing at the time, of course. He tried to explain it more time and he said I was hurting his feelings beause I was laughing. And, he is now sleeping again. I love him!

Back to Reality

We got back from Riviera Maya last night and we had so much fun! The resort was amazing and I would go back there anytime. Here are a few pictures of our trip.

Onto other exciting news! I won a free workshop for myself and 6 friends from Atlar'd!! I could not be more excited!!

Plus, I have this week to get my classroom ready and work registration because next Monday starts teacher in-service week. How did summer go by so fast?! No!! I am not ready. I just need one more week, PLEASE!

Yesterday was a big day! Matthew Aaron was born just before 8am and weighed 9 pounds and 8 ounces. He is a big boy with TONS of hair! It looks like he is wearing a wig! Congrats to my sister, Jen, and her husband, Brad! I can’t wait to see how John reacts when his little brother comes home and he isn’t an only child anymore. Two boys, what fun!! :)

I just love him already!!! :)

In other exciting news, we leave for the beach on Sunday!!! So picture us hanging out here for 6 nights. Jealous?

I have the two nightstands that I bought off Craigslist that I need to revamp, but I am nervous to do this on my own. First of all, Sunday night was a big night. Michael Buble concert!! Do you love him?! I do! Not as much as my Jerome-y, but he is in second for sure. We had such a great time! My sister, mom, and 2 of my best friends went with me and we wish we could go again tomorrow. Next year we are determined to get close up and personal seats! I better start saving up now. :)

So, Jeremy and I have a queen sized bed, which is fine with me, but Jer is 6’2 and would love to have more room to stretch out. I am nice and comfy, but whateva! I love my bedding now that I got from Bed Bath and Beyond and I love the dark walls that we have. Some people don’t like dark walls, but we love having deep brown walls. I sleep like a ba-by!

(Across from this is our entertainment stand and our TV is mounted on the wall…. I didn’t think anyone cared to see that!)
I got this chair off of Craigslist for $20; painted it and switched to fun fabric and there ya go. I love the print! I don’t want to change that chair again, as of right now. We have nightstands in the garage ready to paint a pale yellow (maybe), but it is just too flipping hot out right now. The dresser will stay, I would think…. Our only thing we would need to get is a new bed frame, headboard, and bedding. We want to get an upholstered headboard, and I could actually another one, but I need some ideas to go by.

As much as I would say I would want to completely change the color scheme, I don’t!! Yikes! I love lighter blues, brown, cream, tan, etc… So, here are some possibilities for bedding. I guess I should have said that we aren’t doing this anytime soon. We just love to talk about the future :)

I know there are two random bedding sets in there. But, I kind of like them! Maybe, this will be our Christmas present? Ehh… I think we need to get done with the guest bathroom that we haven’t even started yet!

Anyways, I had fun looking at everything. All of the pictures I got are from Pottery Barn, Horchow, Crate and Barrel, Target, and Kohls.

Today was a fun craft day! I had such a wonderful time hanging out with my sisters, Jen and Allison, and a few of my best friends, Melissa and Stefanie. Of course, Bella was there to make us smile even more. Allison, from A Glimpse Inside, had a great tutorial on how to make a wreath using coffee filters. So, a craft day was in order!

Jen and Al were working on other crafts while the 3 of us made wreaths. These wreaths will take quite a bit of time! It took me almost 4 hours to finish it. Which, went by quickly because I was laughing the vast majority of the time.

You will need coffee filters (duh!), a wreath, glue gun, ribbon, and an ink pad. Making the wreath is super easy but just time consuming because you want it to look very full… which causes it to be very fluffy! That is the first thing Jeremy said when he saw it. Hope that was a good comment??

Remember, candy is a must. I recommend skittles, starbursts, and M&Ms.

We also used the ping pong/pool table for extra space for all of our supplies. And, of course, we needed to revert back to the directions to make sure we were on the right track.

So, I’ve Been Thinking…

These few words cause my loving husband to roll his eyes and say oh crap. We have been talking about how within the next few years we want to redo the guest bathroom and the kitchen. Then our house will have been completely remodeled. So, I brought up the idea that I want the guest bathroom to be remodeled by the time we had a baby. I really thought I would have a battle ahead of me with Jeremy, but he just thought about it and started talking about what we could do! HELLO! That was easy :)

Here is our plan… GUT the bathroom! Nothing stays. Sounds nice and inexpensive. But, we think that we can do all the labor ourselves, actually we know we can. That cuts down our cost by a HUGE amount. We want to put in a new vanity with a granite counter, new tub, new toilet, new tile floor, tile up the wall around the tub, texture the walls, paint, and new mirror, and perhaps even some lighting too. Anything else we are missing?! HaHa!

Not sure when we will actually start this. Hopefully, sometime this fall when it isn’t 100 degree out.

Here are some pictures of people’s remodels and just different bathroom ideas that I like. Although, some of the pictures I only like one certain aspect of the bathroom, but maybe you will like the whole shabang. Who knows what we will actually do!

Star Cupcakes

Happy 4th of July!!!

We went to the lake yesterday with a bunch of friends and I decided to make cupcakes like Allison from A Glimpse Inside had talked about. Well, mine turned out a wee bit different, but tasty and fun none-the-less!

Here are the goods that you need:

You don’t need all of those blueberries or all of the strawberries, so now you can just munch on them as you bake :)

Step 1: Bake cupcakes! I NEVER bake, crap… I never cook, so this was a big day for me. They were delish. I HAD to try one out. I didn’t want people getting sick ;)

Step 2: Icing Time! I put a lot of icing on all 24… err.. 23 cupcakes so that the strawberries would really stay on there. While I was doing this Jeremy helped me chop up the strawberries. I apparently bought huge strawberries so we ended up cutting them into 1/8 instead of 1/4.

Step 3: Assemble! I wasn’t looking at the picture of the cupcakes from Allison’s blog, so I just remembered that they were stars. Well, now that I look at the picture we did it way differently! Oh well! Mine remind me of starfish. Which, who doesn’t love starfish??

I should have taken a picture of all 23 cupcakes, but our ride got there and we had to speed on out of the house. (Can you tell that the middle cupcakes was one of the first ones and that was cut into 1/4 and the star is humongous!)

And, the cupcakes went quickly, so I guess they were a big hit!

Me: “Someone said something about us being an adorable couple today. And, it isn’t the first time I have heard that.”
Jer: “Really? Huh. Do they know that we don’t like each other?”
Me: “Doubt it.”

Isn’t he a sweetheart? I do love him. And, he does love me. Promise.

Speaking of. I am going to show off what Jeremy did a few months ago and I forgot to talk about. He took an old coke machine and completely revamped it. It looks amazing and my dad loved his birthday gift!

Isn’t my hubby talented?! He restored another one for our patio and it looks superb. :)

I am alive and well; just SUPER busy lately! I hosted my very first trunk show this past weekend and that took up a lot of my time. This week I have been at an AP Institute and it was amazing. I got so many great things to bring back to the classroom, so I am excited for that! Even though it was a lot of fun, I am glad it is over… such long days!

Anywhom, I am off to do some work around the house because I am way behind on laundry and such. But, Happy 90th Birthday to my grandma!!

1st Timer at Canton

Yesterday a few of my fellow 7th grade teachers and I headed out to the fun that is Canton! We were so excited to just walk around and see everything. I had nothing in mind to buy, just if anything jumped out at me. Which, was great because I wasn’t stressed about finding that perfect item. It was pretty hot outside, mid 90’s I think, but at least there was a slight breeze, so we didn’t feel like death on a stick. It was acres and acres and acres of funness!

Being indoors was LOVELY! Although, at times it was hotter inside than outside.

This guys were so much fun! I wish you could see that everything dealt with rocks… so neat!

How fun is this place?!

So, I literally bought one thing for me and one thing for my nephew’s big boy room. His duvet has owls in it and I found these guys and thought cute cute! Jen can paint them or keep them as is.

(They are cuter in person, promise!) I got these decor balls (haha sounds awful.. or maybe my mind is in the gutter?) that are green and I just loved for some reason. Here is what I did with them. I also added in some potpourri items that I wasn’t using to complete the look. All in all it cost less than $20! Splendid!

I have two more that I am not quite sure what I should do with. I am sure I will figure it out. But I like how it turned out! Here are a few pictures of Shari, Kerri, Angela, and myself. I love my SMS buddies!!

Angela hit the jackpot and found the exact headboard that she was looking for for her son’s bedroom and it was only $10!! She also got the chair and stool to paint to match his new train themed bedroom. And, how fun is her hat?!

Jeremy drove me around yesterday after I got back from Canton to try to find plates to put on the chargers in the dining room. I just needed to find something and I was tired of looking for white freaking plates! They were not white enough and I think Jeremy was getting a tad annoyed with this. As he would say, “You get something in your head and you don’t even know if you will ever be able to find it.” True, but I always come up with something! Crate and Barrel had these plates that were super different and I just had to get them!

I like that I can use these plates with ANY color and they will last a long time. The dining room table looks better, but I still have things to do. It will have to wait though because I need to do touch paint in almost every room! I am having a little gathering in a few weeks and I feel like I have so much to do. Who wants to come and do a deep clean at my house?! :)

Already 100!

Summer is here and it is already incredibly hot outside. We should reach triple digits this weekend… super. Just in time for us to sweat to death at Canton. I am really excited about going and I will take pictures and post more. Here are my summer goals!

Get Into Shape
I work out at least 5 days a week now but I am really trying hard to tone up. I am taking more strength classes and I am seeing a slight difference in my massive muscles in my arms and shoulders. Can you sense the sarcasm there?

Start and Complete our Nightstands
Remember our Craigslist find? We need to sand, paint, antique, etc…

Can you see where I am going with these? That was coat one, I have done at least 3 coats. I think one more than poly and dunzo!

Touch up Paint around the House
I have so much touch up paint that I need to do… I don’t know where these spots are coming from! Maybe that will be a project for this tomorrow and this weekend.

Bad Blogger

I know I have not blogged as often as I should be or as often as I would life to. Life just gets busy. Here are my 10 quick updates on life. I will get back to normal blogging soon!

1.) Summer vacation starts this Saturday! I loved my students this year, but I love the fact that next week at this time I will not have to go to work the next morning! :)

2.) ALL of my students passed the math TAKS. Yes, ALL! This is a first for me and I am really excited. I had a little over 130 students take it and we pulled it off! Which means, I have to dye part of my hair blue. Pictures to come….

3.) My friend from work is 7 months pregnant and needs to make window treatments for her nursery and redo some chairs… so, I am going to help. Crafty summer, coming up!

4.) I am on book 14 out of the 15 book series that I have been trying to read before summer. Janet Evanovich releases a new book a summer (or so I’m told), so I want to be ready for the 16th to come out. But, I am really getting tired of reading the same type of book over and over. Oh well, they are still funny.

5.) I am branching out and challenging myself and I signed up to be a consultant for a brand new handbag/jewelry line. I am really excited! I love every single piece and I get to host parties. Sounds perfect to me :)

6.) Sadly, I am running out of updates. Our lives aren’t that boring, I swear.

7.) Ummm… I got a new pair of workout capris from Lucy! If you know me, you know that I could buy practically every piece in that store; if only I were a millionaire. They are incredibly comfortable and have passed up my Zella pair to be my new favorite. And yes, I rank my favorite workout pants, jeans, sweaters, etc. Who doesn’t?

8.) Did I mention that summer starts Saturday? If not… summer starts Saturday!

9.) My sisters, mom, and I had our Mother’s Day celebration yesterday. We ate a delish lunch and got pedicures together. We had planned on getting facials and a massage but they had to cancel our appointment because someone quit. Not our problem! Hire someone else :(

Okay. I am going to have to stop at 9. I was struggling to think of the last 7.

3 Day Weekend

Usually when people have a 3-day weekend it is an extra day to sleep in and relax. Yeah… not me. I took Friday off to partake in a garage sale. Friday I was there from 6:45am to 4:00pm…. yikes. Plus, I was slightly sick and I got way worse from the end, to the point that I went home, showered, and was in bed for the rest of the night. Romantic night, I know. Anywhom, everything that didn’t sell we went through and put into 3 stacks: 1)trash 2)Goodwill 3)Cornerstone. Cornerstone is a pretty amazing place and I really want to go to their thrift store. It sounds pretty amazing!

You can’t see all of the things, there was way too many. There was enough clothes to open a Dillards in the garage…. ridiculous.

I hope everyone had a fantastic Mother’s Day! We had a great time with both of our families!!!

Hopefully, I will finish my chairs next week. I didn’t have much spare time this weekend. But, they are looking purrty!

Beans and Butterflies

This weekend was a fun filled weekend with lots of friends and lots of laughs! Plus… I did some crafting! I found a tutorial about making a wreath on Craft Envy and decided to give a whirl.

Here is what I bought: lima beans (cheap!), Styrofoam wreath, twine, fake butterflies, and white spray paint. I got everything from Michael’s except for the lima beans. Side note: Look what friend I got there too.

And… I liked the glossy white so much I changed this old friend, again!

Back to the wreath! Staci, my friend that I always manage to talk into crafting with me, decided to use the glass beads (used to fill vases and stuff… I don’t know the technical name) instead of beans, and she used ribbon and flowers for her accents. Here is our set up. Candy is a MUST!!!

Our first step… glue, glue, glue, and glue! I glued the whole front and side of the wreath with beans. Side note, try not to burn yourself multiple times. Words will fly out of your mouth so fast you won’t have a chance to stop it.

We left a few inches without beans/beads so that we could add the twine/ribbon. Once we finished that we primed Staci’s and then spray painted both of ours glossy white. We did a couple coats, but I don’t mind the green showing a little bit. Just my personal opinion.

Lastly, we glued on our twine/ribbon in the empty space. Then, I placed the butterflies! Done!! :) How easy was that?! Now I have a fun and cheap summer-time wreath.

And, here is the final result on my door. Loves it!!!

Just one of those days

This is not a picture or craft post. It is a purely random post, so read if you wish.

This morning on the way to work I remembered one of the worst mornings I have ever had, but I am sure funny to anyone I told. Let me refresh your memory if you are friends with me or let me fill you in if you are new to me.

It was a Friday morning and I woke up late but still managed to get ready to go to the gym before work. Points for me. On the way out of my community I got pulled over for not completely stopping at the stop sign. It was 5:15AM!! Are you kidding me?! We were the only people on the road for crying out loud! So, that was lovely… a ticket before the sun came out. PERFECT.

Made it to the gym and got on the stair master (the ones where you actually walk up the stairs) and about 1-2 minutes into the workout the stairs start to pick up some speed. Odd. But, I pressed on. I workout a lot, I can handle thing…. UNTIL I was literally running up the dang thing. I mean full on sprint up those stairs. My heart is beating out of control and my life is flashing before my life. I am thinking how in the hellzers am I going to get of this machine without breaking my neck?! I am pressing every single button I can and it is actually going faster… holy Hell. I managed to jump and straddle the sides of the machine, the stairs are swooshing through my legs, but I pressed buttons until it stopped. OBVIOUSLY, a broken machine! Well, come to find out two meat-heads beside me knew it was broken and let me get on there. Isn’t that nice of them?

Workout complete. Back home. It is jeans day at work (although, we get to wear jeans the vast majority of the year because our principal is awesome) and I remembered that I just got a pair of jeans back from getting hemmed. New jeans are lovely! Get ready and put the jeans on, take a last minute look in the mirror and realize that they look a little different at the bottom. And by different, I mean uneven, and by uneven I mean a FEW inches off. CDKLJEILJR KLFJSILFJIJ!!! I tug at the one pant leg thinking maybe they are caught somewhere but that doesn’t seem to fix the problem. Changed, again, while cursing I am sure… and finally made it to work. Don’t worry, I got the jeans fixed and they were so nice to tell me that they wouldn’t charge me. I said ‘yeah, that was never a question in my mind since you made the mistake of only hemming one pant leg’.

Thankfully, the only other bad thing was that I hit my funny bone on a desk.

What makes me think to write this? Well, Jeremy had a few things happen to him within the past 2-3 days that he hasn’t been laughing about but I am dying laughing just thinking about it. Bear with me for the explanation.

We were working outside in the yard and Jeremy is trying to hang something on the wall and this huge, and I mean HUGE, black bug was flying by and we both were like what in the world was that?! It flew away, but a few minutes later it was on Jeremy’s back!! He didn’t have a shirt on either and he was telling me to swat it off. Umm…. yeah… no. I immediately started pointing and kinda ran away instead. Well, Jeremy is just standing there and he tried moving around but Mr. Bug was not budging. He kept asking me to swat it but there was NO way I was touching it with my hand. So next logical thing? The water hose! So, I sprayed him down so the bug would fly off. Oh man. I have tears coming down my face right now.

Tonight he tripped/rolled his ankle on the lip on the garage floor. Not even one minute later he got his arm tangled in a wire when he was trying to get the recycle bin, so when he started walking he got jerked back. I was barely standing at this time, I was hysterical laughing! Crap, I still am!

Okay, Jeremy is really thinking I am strange because I am dying laughing while typing a blog. Sometimes, it happens. :)

100 posts, can you believe it? Most people have giveaways, but…. I don’t have anything fun to giveaway. Sorry!! I am not a pro-blogger ;)

My sister, Allison, is an interior designer (check out her design blog: Design Life) and I ask her for stuff all the time. Well, I had a centerpiece in my dining room that I used for Christmas decor but I wanted to use it year round. So, she suggested for Easter/spring time to do something like this:

Loverly. Took about 3 minutes and a few dollars. My kind of centerpiece. It isn’t Easter time anymore (hasn’t been for a while), so I bought all of this at Garden Ridge today.

And it became this for summer time! Doesn’t everyone automatically think beach when you think of the summer? Well, maybe not everyone, but I know I do! And, I know I still need plates and maybe I should move the birds, but I love them and they love me. I just can’t do that to my pals.

Now, I can’t wait for our vacation to Gulf Shores at the end of the summer! Woohoo!

Did I forget to mention that Jeremy and I bought the furniture from the previous post?! Well, we went that night and bought them. My heart fell in love when I saw my new loves.

The dresser has a mirror that we took off to fit in the bed of the truck. No worries, it is a complete set! Do you just love them as much as I do?

Rainy Sunday

It has been raining since Friday so I haven’t been able to work on my chairs at all. Isn’t that always the case?! Every dang time I actually want to paint something it rains. Awesome. To make this weekend even lovelier, I had to work from 8-12 yesterday in order to make up a bad weather day. It was only the teachers but I still would have preferred to go to my workout class and sleep in!

My mom’s friend had this bracelet and it was all elastic and too big. A simple switch to wire, take two beads off, add the toggle and it is as good as new! Plus I was able to use the two extra beads to make a matching pair of earrings. EASY SMEASY! Just use jump rings; best thing ever invented if you want to make some simple and classic earrings. Next time I should take pictures and show you step by step. Honestly, it is a lot of fun and requires VERY little time. I worked on both things and was done in 15 minutes.

I tried to take a better picture so you could see the earrings but it was difficult since I don’t have a fancy camera. So this is on my Christmas list for 2010.

I have been working hard on redoing two chairs I bought recently. One chair went smoothly while painting black today but when I got to the other one… this happened.Can you see the random crackling and weirdness?! Did NOT happen on chair one! So, this was my clue to say “wtf”, go inside, and eat wheat thins. That looks like a perfect fix it job for Mr. Jeremy.

I am begging Jeremy to let me get these pieces off Craigslist. I NEED this to survive…. honestly, it is like water at this point. These nightstands (they have two bad boys) will be painted and used in our bedroom and the dresser will be perfect for our one day nursery!

They need to be stripped and painted and need all new hardware. Hello…. FUN.

Trying to make a deal with Jeremy. He is getting a shotgun without my permission (not smooth), so I said I will not ‘B’ at you at all if you let me get this.

How was your Easter? Mine was fantastic, thank you for asking. Here are a few shots of the weekend. And, no, that is not our truck. Jeremy’s dad bought it the other day to restore. And, no, those aren’t my kids! I am good old Auntie Em :)

Yesterday was our 2nd Anniversary! Jeremy bought me beautiful flowers and a sweet card. We are going out to a nice dinner this weekend and I am super excited. We LOVE Trulucks! YUM!

In honor of our anniversary Jeremy let me buy two more chairs off Craigslist. hahaha… I died laughing about it last night. How romantic are we?! Here's the thing… they were $5 each and literally less than a mile away. Couldn’t say no. I got two of these. Any ideas of what color to paint them and what kind of fabric to use? I need some ideas! I told Jeremy I would actually do these fast and try to get rid of them fast too. He is getting tired of all the chairs. Although, he just called to tell me that he traded something for a scooter. Are you kidding me?! A SCOOTER?? Help. Us. Please.

Big Time

Pretty excited that our bathroom was featured on Better After! I have gotten a few emails about what we did, so I figured I should go ahead and do a full post of what we did and pictures. So here goes!

When we bought the house we loved how big the master bath was, but we weren’t in love with the 1990’s theme. After we got the main things done in the house, like flooring, paint, opening walls, etc… we decided it was time to tackle our bathroom. One of my best friends at work told me to talk to her husband who owns a tile company. Jumped on that idea! He completely helped us out and totally hooked us up. He came over almost every night to help us (and by us I mean Jeremy and my dad) lay tile. Here are the demo/before pictures.

Phase Two:
We, somehow, have many amazing connections. One of our friends was a plumber and helped us raise the shower head about a foot since Jeremy is so dang tall. Then we (again, Jeremy and friends & family) put up cement boards and built a half-wall for the shower where the door was. This was a task!!
*I can’t find a picture of the half-wall without tile, sorry!*

Phase Three:
This was the major phase! Tile time! We got a medallion for the center of the floor so that is what we put down first. Then we just tiled the rest of the floor from there. This took a while but the results were amazing :)

Phase Four:
We tiled right onto the front of the tub, which was nice that we didn’t have to replace it. Pricey! Victor, from Beshea Tile, did all the shower flooring. He made it slope down to the drain so that the water would flow right. It was insane to see how quick he did it. Then again, he has been doing this for 30 years! We also tiled the top half of the shower first (including around the tub), let it set, tiled the bottom half, let it set, and then tiled the border between. Finally we tiled the wall. The bathroom was finally coming together!

Phase Five:
We textured and painted the walls, installed new windows, put molding around the windows, completed the crown molding, installed a new toilet, put two individual mirrors up, and put some decor up. We aren’t done yet, but we are getting there!

Some people have asked if our shower gets water everywhere since we don’t have glass or a door and the answer is nope! A little bit of water splashes towards the bath mat, but that’s it. We just use a squeegee (sp?!) that we hide.

Surprise!

As we all know I have little to no will power when it comes to certain things, like food, presents, etc… When Jeremy came home today he had my birthday gift ready to go. Sneaky Jer, he ordered it and had it sent to his parents so I couldn’t figure out what it was. I knew I wouldn’t wait until tomorrow to open it up (we both knew this). I guessed that it was the Glee DVD but the bag was way too light. Jeremy gave me a hint that I have asked for this item numerous times. Got it! I remembered that the other week I showed him a Betsey Johnson necklace and earring set online. I am so very smart.

Skip to one hour (being generous here) later and I decided it was close enough to my birthday to open my gift. Much to my surprise it was not at all what I thought; it was a pair of Ralph Lauren sunglasses that I saw & fell in love with LAST summer while we are on vacation in Florida!! Ever since then I have looked for them here and never found them. I never searched far and wide, but every time we go to Nordstrom’s Rack, TJ, Dillards, anywhere…. I would look through the sunglasses for this pair or something similar.

Of course, I love my gift, but what makes me even happier is that Jeremy really pays attention to all the little things that I do and say. It delights my heart that Jeremy remembered something that I liked and have secretly wanted for almost a year. He picked up on the fact that every time we are about to leave Nordstrom I take a quick glance at the sunglass section to see if I hit the jackpot.

Just one of the very many, many, many reasons why I love my husband more and more each day. He will do anything and everything he can just to make me smile :)

Should I….?

I do not love the look of my blog and have been looking for new backgrounds and a header, but nothing seems to really hit the spot. I think I need to bit the bullet and get a custom blog make-over! Searching on websites I found out that it isn’t a cheap thing. Some people were asking over $100 for the background alone. Hell to the no!

THEN, I found this lovely site while just browsing from blog to blog. The Frilly Coconut Do you just love her portfolio like I do?! Here are a few of my favorite blogs that she has done.

I think the last one may be my favorite because I have been on a green kick lately.

The best part is the price! Only $40 to completely redo the WHOLE blog! Sounds pretty wonderful to me. So, should I do it? I told Jeremy about it the other day but he didn’t seem to have any sort of opinion either way. I am just impressed he reads my blog.

My birthday is Wednesday. Maybe that will be my gift to myself?!

Oh Life

10 updates on life.

1. I finally finished our couch pillows. It took me almost 2 weeks because I didn’t want to hand sew the closings, but I finally did as we watched basketball last night. So glad to have a color besides gold and red in our living room.

2. We painted our arm chair today since it was a gorgeous out. The picture outside is of the chair primed and then the final product. The color is actually porcelain and it looks more white in the photo. I am very happy with the result.

3. Speaking of chairs….. I got two more bad boys! Any ideas of what I should do with them? Jeremy isn’t convinced that I am going to make them into some amazing, but I have faith!

4. I got this table that I just need to strip and refinish, but I love the shape of the table. For $10 I couldn’t say no. Obviously, since it is in my garage.

5. Our pool is so close to finishing. They did the first phase of the stamped concrete today and we are so excited to take pictures of the final result.

6. My students take TAKS in a little over 4 weeks and I am already stressed about it. 90% of my students will do fine, but there are some that are just so borderline that it could go either way. I have one or two that are so far away from passing that I am struggling to hold onto hope. Sad. I need an attitude adjustment asap.

7. Jeremy is having friends over tonight to watch the UFC fights. I like having his friends over, they make me laugh a lot. One of his friends has asked me to make him pillows for his couch because he wants all new stuff. Uh oh… small business time! You know, make 4 pillows for someone once a year. I will make millions on this.

8. My birthday is Wednesday. I asked for Glee Season 1 on DVD. I hope I get it!! One of my sweet, sweet students found out that I like sour straws and bought me 3 packages of them. How lucky am I that I love my job. Attitude has been adjusted.

9. Glee Season 2 starts April 13th. I watched a commercial and at the end I started screaming and clapping because I got so excited. I am going to have a party by myself that night. Feel free to join via TV.

10. My sister is having another boy this summer! We are so thrilled to have another baby around. I hope they name him after me…. Emilio Brown. Just rolls off the tongue.

Spring + Snow = Say What?!

The first day of spring it snowed in Tejas. Really? Hello sickness, how I have not missed you. Today it was 76… go figure.

Our pool is coming along nicely. The stone work is complete with the spill ways. Lovely. They have also cleared the extra seating area and poured the concrete. Next step stamped concrete and then finishing out the pool! CANNOT WAIT!

I bought some new fabrics that I lurve. I made a few pillows but I am not done so no pictures of the outcome. Jeremy and I did, finally, reupholster the seat of a chair for our bedroom. Of course, when we wanted to paint it it SNOWED. Jeremy also finished the coke box for my dad’s birthday. Turned out amazing!

And lastly, Jeremy bought himself the original Nintendo with something like 70 games. Ridiculous. Here is what I found him doing yesterday. Ignore the chair (we are getting rid of it but have yet to move it to the garage because….well… I am lazy). Apparently, the windex helps when the games won’t work??

American Idol time. Miley Cyrus… ugh.

So much to blog about! First things first, Spring Break started Friday at 3:45. That is when I sprinted out the front door with textbooks and papers in hand. They are still in my car, does that mean something?

Bella’s birthday party was Saturday and we had a great time, as did Ms. Bella! She is a bit of a ham and loves to be the center of attention, so she loved everyone watching her at all times. Sadly, my batteries in my camera died as she was opening presents, so here are a few of what I got.

Uncle Jim and my cousin, Heather, were in town for the weekend and we loved getting to spend time with them. As always, I took one picture from my parents house and they aren’t even in it. What is wrong with me??? (but isn’t it adorable!?)

In other news…. painted for a few hours today. It was GORGEOUS outside. After a workout I threw on my paint clothes and just painted away. Did I tell you that I found a dresser down the street that was on the curb? Yes, I made Jeremy and Brad get it for me. Nothing wrong with it, why not have some fun?

You like? I do!

I also bought this chair off craigslist for SUPER cheap and I love the shape of it. No idea what I am going to do with it yet. I don’t think I can tackle that upholstery, but we shall see.

I finally painted another chair. I still need to sand it a bit to get some character back, but it is getting there. Slowly, but surely… it is becoming a likeable piece.

We still need to redo another chair we bought which we can do ourselves. Hopefully this week that will be done. We ran out of time before dinner and now I am busy doing laundry and being lazy. Such is life.

Our pool is coming along!!!! In another day or two the long step with the spill-ways will be all stoned in and working. Can’t wait :) We just love coming home and seeing the progress that has been made.

Finally, I have decided that my life would be better if I could buy workout pants and other bottoms in Smedium! (Pronunciation: Shm-edian) That would be half way between a small and a medium. I can fit into a small but two more pounds and I am out. Mediums are too big… it is just a never ending cycle of disappointment. But, we ran to the mall with Jeremy’s mom today and we found great Nike Capris that fit AND were on sale. Double whammy. Lisa is getting me a pair for my birthday and I bought a pair for now.

You’ve Been Served

Are you kidding me? I got the dreaded subpoena today that I was hoping would never arrive. I got an email a week or so ago that a case I worked in 2007 is going to trial and I would testify if that happens. Looks like it is going to happen. Joy. This all reminds me of how much I don’t miss working for CPS and how happy I am teaching.

The pool is coming along! Tile is up and stone has been cut and ready to be put into place. We decided to do stamped concrete as well. Super pumped about that decision!

And, Jeremy and two of his best friends are now taking Krav Maga. He likes to show me all of the stuff they learned in class. I guess I know what it feels like when I come home from step and show him my routines. At least I am actually interested to see what he learned. Jeremy just tells me I am strange and then finally stops watching after about 20 seconds. Oh marriage.

Pillows Galore

Staci and I decided to have a pillow making night since the guys were at a church function. Lets keep in mind that this will be my first sewing experience since middle school.

Here is Staci trying to do a little pre-sewing research. You can solve all of life’s problems by doing a simple google search.

Our lovely set up. We decided to move the kitchen table to the living room so we could watch Grey’s Anatomy, which is getting worse by the week. Yes Jeremy, you read correctly. I agree… the show sucks. Anywhom, we also had to get the perfect snack. Easter sweettarts!

Sewing away! Although, I stopped using that fabric because it was poooooop to work with.

Here are our results for the evening! You like? And here are the pillows that I made today. I need to finish closing up 4 of them, but that may be my least favorite part of making a pillow.

I love the ones above. Those are actually complete and I really like how they turned out! They go perfectly with our master bedroom bedding.

We borrowed a table from Jeremy’s parents and decided to put our living room back in order and put all the sewing fun-ness in our spare bedroom/office/craft/one day nursery/whatever room.

Jeremy’s parents didn’t want these pictures that light up anymore, so they gave them to us. They go really well in our game room and we are pumped about them. I wish you could tell the parts the light up….but… I don’t feel like trying to do that. One picture per object is my max. I don’t like to waste clicks.

Things I am looking forward to:
- Glee coming back in April
- Spring Break next week
- Our pool being done
- Bella’s birthday party

Speaking of birthday party… my birthday is the last day of the month and I am sure you are already trying to come up with ideas for the perfect gift. Let me try to help you out. A gift card to Nordstrom because I love my Zella workout pants and want another pair. Glee Season 1 on DVD would be splendid.

Fabric Finds

I took a little trip to the fabric store looking for some fabric to reupholster a chair we bought off Craigslist. (Love me some Craigslist.) Went in looking for one fabric and left with three. Oops!

So hopefully by this weekend this seat will be covered in one of those fabrics! Can you guess which one?!

Jeremy and I picked out the tile for the pool. We are having stone around the edge and then this will be the border.

You like? I think it will go with the stone nicely. It better!

Plan for this weekend: workout (I can’t stop eating!), paint furniture, reupholster, attempt to do cording for the chair (yikes), church, and more crafts! Care to join?

Last Friday was the end of the 4th six weeks which means I have 12 more to go until I am on summer vacation! I am so excited, I can barely take it. Just to get past the TAKS, then I am home free.

Our pool renovations started, nothing much to update there. We need to pick out tile and we haven’t. Oops.

We got to babysit John last Sunday for an hour or so and he was adorable, as always. Don’t tell Jen that dad wanted to see if he could hang from a pull-up bar! (Good news… he hung on.)

We have a few projects going on and I won’t go into detail until I have some pictures to explain. But, here is an idea of what I did for a wee little while today. Jeremy worked on his projects ALL day! I did not… double/partner step and wheat thins took up some of my precious time.

It was a primer party in our garage around 4:00. You should have stopped by.

Crafty idea!

Alright ladies, who wants to do a craft project with me? Staci? Allison? Jen? Celice? Anyone?! It’s gonna be a cute one!

I want a wreath for the door but I don’t like any at the stores, so why not make one? I remembered that I saw a really fun one on someone’s blog but couldn’t remember which one. It would take forever trying to find it but somehow I found it quickly through google images. It was on a different blog but it lead me to the info. Perfect. AND, she had her DIY wreath on her page and it is beautiful! How are people so creative? And, why am I not one of those people? Oh life.

I have been trying to keep myself busy lately so I am not thinking too much of what is going on with my family. The trip to California was the hardest thing I have ever done and I think I was cried pretty much the whole time I was awake yesterday. And, I am not a crier, but this is different and it is so tragic and very upsetting. I am very glad that I went to see her and that I got to tell her that I loved her and say goodbye. A lot of people don’t get that chance, so I should consider myself very lucky. I will say that I have the best friends and family who have emailed, called, texted, etc… to see me and my family were doing. Jeremy’s mom came over and bought me beautiful roses and my favorite candy to cheer me up. Poor Jeremy, he just sits and listens and gives me lots of hugs. Today has been much better, I just have to stay busy… which is why we need to make a wreath!
